December is just around the corner and so is the season of giving. How might you get your customers involved? Put your money where your heart is, and they will follow suit. Consider doing a toy drive, participating in Giving Tuesday or donating supplies to a local arts organization.
Me, I Want A Hula Hoop
Having spent the greater part of 2019 thinking about our new Children’s & Gift collection, we are particularly hooked on the idea of a toy drive. Toy drives provide creative, fun gifts for underserved children who might not otherwise get a special toy for the holidays. Every kid deserves to feel that excitement and explore creative play! You get to give back with an added bonus: customers who might not otherwise check out the kids’ section might find themselves interested in contributing.
Then we caught wind that Head of People Molly Johnston’s pup Stella has a Mrs. Claus suit at the ready. Welp, these are a few of our favorite things… Art dogs, costumes, art supplies and creative play. Cue a photo shoot with Stella and Tali Even-Kesef, Graphic Designer and in-house photographer extraordinaire.
Yes, the visuals are adorable, and would probably be a good idea if you have a shop pup of your own to model with your toy selection, but how can you make a toy drive actually happen? Some steps to take as the season of gratitude and giving approaches:
- Find out if Toys For Tots has a local chapter near you; if not, contact your local fire department and ask if they do an annual drive.
- Set aside a big box and ask a staff member to decorate in a creative way (that also cross-merchandises gift wrapping materials that you carry).
- Put together a “wish list” of special kids’ items! Check out the ones featured in our recent article about parent and kid favorites and see if any parents, aunts or uncles on staff have recommendations.
