Palace Art celebrated 70 years in business this past May! What started as a single retail location on Pacific Avenue in Santa Cruz, CA in 1949 has since blossomed into two stores that serve both the Santa Cruz and Capitola communities. Palace Art’s sister company, Palace Business Solutions, is an enterprise level office supply distributor that rivals big-box stores like Staples and Office Depot. Three generations later the Trowbridge brothers Frank, Roy and Gary remain at the helm of the company.
Palace Art & Office Supply celebrated this milestone with a free, three-day event featuring manufacturers, artists and hands-on workshops and demonstrations. The events took place at both their Capitola and Santa Cruz retail store locations.
The celebration included hands-on demonstrations hosted by manufacturers, including GOLDEN, Pentel, POSCA, Liquitex, Sennelier, Fabriano, MONTANA-CANS and more.
Attendees had a chance to experiment with product and learn new skills, from printmaking and paper marbling to card-making and watercolors.
Palace featured prominent artists, including illustrator Chris Koehler, sponsored by Pentel. Chris is known for his work featured in the New York Times and other national publications. Local artists, like the Made Fresh Crew were on-hand, demonstrating Montana Spray Colors and POSCA pens while they created a piece of art to be raffled off in support of The Fresh Walls Project, an organization funding the “Healthy Ocean Environment” mural being created along a wall of Bay View Elementary School in Santa Cruz.
Congratulations Palace Arts on 70 years of success!
